Daio Paper To Expand Southeast Asian Presence

Plans expansion of adult business in Thailand, infant diaper rollout in India

Japan’s Daio Paper will expand its adult diaper business in Thailand and introduce  baby diapers in India, as part of an expansion in Southeast and South Asia, according to a report published on Nikkei Net. Daio currently sells daytime adult diapers in Thailand and will add nighttime and underwear-shaped products, in light of the country’s aging population, to its lineup. The company hopes to sell  seven million diapers a month. It also will roll out feminine pads.

Meanwhile, in India, Daio plans to sell its Thai-made disposable baby diapers in India as part of plan to increase sales from its Tahia uit by 30% (to $70 million) this year. Daio’s Thai operation has been making baby diapers for five years and is the production hub for both Southeast and South Asian markets. Daio aims to increase the Thai unit’s sales to ¥8 billion yen ($70.2 million) in 2016, an increase of 30% on the year.

Daio will reportedly consider basing production in India if sales there are successful. The company hopes to double its overseas sales by the end of 2017.
